“Tamil lands will be returned – AKD”

During the war between the military and the Liberation Tigers of Tamil Eelam (LTTE) in our neighboring country, Sri Lanka, the government began seizing Tamil lands in the 1980s and allocating them for military use. After the war ended, from 2015 onwards, these lands have been gradually returned to the people.

In this situation, Anura Kumara Dissanayake won the presidential election held in Sri Lanka last September and assumed office as the President. Following his appointment, he has been announcing several important decisions.

Meanwhile, after assuming office, President Dissanayake visited Jaffna, the capital of the Northern Province, for the first time yesterday. During his visit, he stated, “Tamil lands under military control will soon be returned.”
