A view of the tribal communities living in the Bastar state of Chhattisgarh. Births that take place at home without medical assistance and supervision are called conventional births. Until the 1970s in India and Tamil Nadu, home births were conducted with midwives/nurses attending the births. Back then there was no developed medical infrastructure, no doctors, no caesarean section. In the 1970s in Tamil Nadu, 1650 to 1750 mothers died for every one lakh births. Now in 2017-2019 Tamilnadu 99.9% deliveries are taking place under medical supervision in hospitals. Now in Tamil Nadu only 58 mothers die for every 100,000 births.
